Limehills is a shining-light rural school in the Southland Plains, half an hour north of Invercargill and under two hours from New Zealand’s adventure-capital, Queenstown. Set against a breathtaking scenic backdrop, it is the jewel of a prosperous farming community that surrounds and supports its every endeavour.
Limehills is a highly regarded year 1-8 school with approximately 180 pupils. The school has a proud record of academic, sporting, cultural, artistic and social success. Integral to Limehills School is its Enviroschool status.
Students keep grazing animals and chickens and grow a variety of vegetables in our tunnel houses. At Limehills, you’ll also find the next generation of entrepreneurs! The students deliver a weekly on-site cooperative, selling school-grown and other local produce. Pupils plan and manage all aspects of their ventures and all profits go into further developing the businesses. For these passionate and committed students, tending animals and nurturing crops are part of daily life.
Sadly, our students are currently utilising a single oven located in our staffroom to create some amazing tasty treats from the produce grown on site. We would love to win a prize in this competition as we dream of converting an unused building onsite into a fully functional technology block with a dream kitchen. If our dream comes true our kitchen will be used every day of the week.
